In May 2018, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published the standard of ISO 4045:20181. It is a testing method to evaluate the pH value of an aqueous leather extract. This testing method is applicable to all types of leather. The pH value is a measurement of acidity or alkalinity of a solution or a material. Highly acidic or alkaline leather sample may cause skin allergy reaction. The pH value testing has been an industry norm for leather products e.g. apparel and footwear. The technical changes of the latest standard are minor but the updated standard gives more clarify in testing procedures. Please refer to the highlights of changes in the new version.
